Catherine Macleod

Catherine Macleod

Catherine was possibly a daughter of Norman and Margaret nee Macleod who lived in Tobson. Her family gave hospitality to John Coleby, an English sailor who was shipwrecked off Bosta. Catherine married John and they moved to Gravesend, England where they had four children that we know of. John came to Bosta with 3 children as a widower

The son Norman is given below although the only trace of him is by verbal tradition with the name Tormod Sassunach. There is no record of him in Stornoway. He was known locally as a lay preacher, but it is possible that the name Tormod was given locally as an equivalent for Edward who is in the Stornoway census as a tract seller
