53523: Malcolm Martin Kennedy

Malcolm Martin Kennedy (1928-2006) was a son of Murdo Kennedy and Johanna Macleod, 13 Orinsay.

He moved to Glasgow and became an apprentice plater at John Brown's Shipyard on Clydeside. Three months later he enrolled at Glasgow University to study medicine. Malcolm left after ten months and worked as an Accountant for a short time. He then joined the Army for four years and during his time in the forces sang in his spare time. His sister encouraged him to enter the local Glasgow Mod  which he won. This led to hime winning the Gold Medal at the Nationa Mod in 1955. This started his career as a famous Gaelic singer.

At Kelvingrove, Glasgow, in 1953 he married Anne Macdonald Gillies. The couple had five daughters. Malcolm and Anne sang professionally and performed all over the world.

Malcolm was widowed in 1974 and he later married  and had another daughter.
