John, born 1895, was a son of Angus and Catherine nee Macdonald, 24 Valasay. During WW1 John served with the R.N.D. and was held prisoner in Germany after the fall of Antwerp; awarded the Mons Star.

He was married to Margaret nee Macaulay, 19 Hacklete and lived at her family home until c1934 when the family moved to 3 Hacklete to care for John Macinnes and his wife when they were elderly. John and Margaret raised five children.
