57399: John Macleod

John Macleod (1928-2021) was born on 19 August 1928, the son of John Macleod of 25 Balallan  and Ann Morrison of 4 Airidhbhruach. He was raised with his siblings at 70 Balallan. He left home at the age of 22 years to go sailing where he had an accomplished career including being selected to serve on the ship “Gothic”  carrying the Queen on a tour of commonwealth countries. He returned to Lewis mid 1960s to care for his failing stepmother. He then worked on Eishken and Soval estates as a ghillie for many years. He died suddenly at his home on 17 February 1921. John was unmarried.
