59160: Malcolm Macdonald

Malcolm, born 1897, was a son of Malcolm and Mary Macaulay who lived at 25 Valasay before settling at 20 Hacklete. During WW1 he served in the 2nd Seaforths (piper) and was killed in action during 2nd Battle of Ypres, Belgium aged 17 years. He is commemorated on Menin Gate, Ypres, Panel 38 and also on a panel in Seaforth Cemetery, St., Julien

He was known as Murdo and family members insist his real name was Murdo, yet in the register of BMD and in the Roll of Honour he is recorded as Malcolm.
