59480: Finlay Nicolson

Fionnlagh Aonghais Fhionnlaigh

Finlay (born 1891-1972)  was a son of Angus Nicolson and Isabella Macmillan, 24 Lemreway.  

He worked for the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1917 when he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve on February 20, 1917 under Service Number A14760. His record indicates that he was 5ft 7in tall with grey eyes, a dark complexion and a mole on his left nipple. Finlay was immediately Mobilised and served in the Royal Navy in the First World War. Based at HMS Vivid, HMS Iolaire and aboard HMS Thalia, HMS Heather Bell, HMS Eagle, HMS Victory and HMS Lavatera. He was awarded £5.12/6d Prize Money and his name is mentioned in  Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-18.

At Stornoway, in 1920, he married Isabella Campbell, 19 Lemreway. Finlay and Isabella settled at 19 Lemreway and they had six children.
