Malcolm, son of Angus Smith and Alexanderina Macdonald, Seaview, Keose, worked in the Post Office, Keose for a time before leaving for South America where he worked on sheep farms in Patagonia. He eventually returned to Keose and began working again in the Post Office. He married Christina Macdonald of 52b Balallan in 1926 and lived at 48 Balallan after acquiring the croft.
