6233: Donald Matheson

Donald (1886-1958) was a son of John Matheson and Ann Macphail,  25 Gravir.

On 21st September 1918 Donald enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve, with service number DA22000; his previous employment was Section Y30772. Donald was immediately mobilised and was based at HMS Pembroke. He transferred to the Royal Naval Reserve Trawler Division and he was given a Disability Gratuity of £8.9s.0d in January 1919. He is mentioned in Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918.

In Lochs, in 1907, he married Margaret Macrae of 8 Habost. Donald and Margaret settled at 25 Gravir and had four children. 

Donald's brother Alex Dan married Margaret's sister Barbara.

The family later moved to Stornoway.

Donald was widowed in 1931 and at Stornoway, in 1934, he married Catherine Macleod from Stornoway.
