Roderick (born 1828) was a son of Angus Finlayson and Mary Smith, 10 Marvig. The family later moved to 8 Marvig.
In Lochs, in 1850, he married Jane Munro from Melvich, Sutherland. Roderick and Jane settled at 8 Marvig and they had five children.
Roderick gave evidence to Napier Commission during its session at Keose on 12 June 1883.
