John (born 1875) was a son of Donald Macmillan and Barbara Macdonald, 17 Marvig.

On March 24, 1916 he enrolled in the Royal Naval Reserve under Service Number DA10863. His record indicates that his year of birth was 1882, he was 5 ft 6½ in tall with blue eyes and a fair complexion. John was a fisherman and was immediately Mobilised and served in the Royal Navy in the First World War. Initially aboard HMT Caldy he was transferred to HMS Iolaire in 1918 and remained there until 1919. John received War Prize Money of £2.00.0d, £2.10.8d and £18.10.0d and is mentioned in Loyal Lewis: Roll of Honour 1914-1918.
