63770: Donald Smith

Donald, born c1785, was one of the old soldiers in Uig – he had served in Canada. He was married to Margaret nee Macritchie in Kneep (probably at Creagan na Traghad). In the 1851 census, the family are living at Uigen but after Donald’s death his widow moved back to Kneep where she was allocated croft No 9.

Donald and Margaret raised seven children.

He was known as an Fhidhleir, the fiddler – whether this was because he could actually play the fiddle, we don’t know.
