65008: Kenneth Mackenzie

Kenneth Mackenzie, Coinneach Ban, was the son of Murdo Mackenzie, tacksman of Laxay, and himself became tacksman after his father.

He was renowned as an excellent swordsman, and was said to be 7′ tall. He seems to have been frequently at odds with the Chamberlains – both Colin Mackenzie (Cailean Dearg) and Zachary Macaulay.

Several stories telling of Coinneach Ban survive – one retold by Kinloch Historical Society and another from Angus Macleod’s collection.
