65152: Malcolm Gillies

Malcolm, born 1828, was a son of Malcolm and Mary Smith, Miavaig. According to local tradition the family was cleared from Miavaig when Miavaig Farm and House was created in the 1850s for James Macrae, the Registrar and the Inspector of the Poor in Uig.

Malcolm moved to Carishader where he became the first tenant of number 9. He married Isabella Macdonald of 16 Uigean and raised six children. In the 1891 census he was recorded as a mail-carrier.
