66034: Murdo Matheson

The information we have on this man comes from the Rev William Matheson, both from his artice on Matheson family history in the Stornoway Gazette and the ‘Genealogies of the Mathesons’ from the Transactions of the Gaelic Society of Inverness.

The two articles differ in the name given to this subject; whilst the Gazette names him Murdo the ‘Genealogies’ refers to him as Malcolm ‘Calum mac Mhurchaidh’ (albeit with a question mark).

He was a son of Murdo and Christina nee Macaulay and was tenant at Kneep or Valtos. He was married and had at least two sons; Donald and Murdo (conflicting report again – the Gazette article claims that this son’s name is now lost to us).
