Although it is not verified it's more than likely that John is the father of Donald who was a tenant in Kirkibost. In the 1766 rental entries for Kirkibost he is probably the 'John Maccoilviceon' - the only John mentioned (apart from a John Taylor).

He was a witness for the defender at the first hearing of the Lewis/Harris boundary dispute where he stated that he moved to Kirkibost when he was a year old (c1736) and was a tenant since 1760.
