Catherine, wife of Angus Mackay was born in Glasgow where she was employed as a Shorthand Typist. Her father came from Isle of Skye and her mother from Uist. In 1925 Angus and Catherine moved to the croft with four of their children to look after Angus's mother who could not speak any English and Catherine could not speak Gaelic, but she quickly picked it up.
