67478: Alexander MacLeod

Alexander, known as Alasdair Ruadh, was born in about 1816, the son of Duncan MacLeod and Mary MacLeod of old Ruisgarry. He obtained 2 Ruisgarry (Sandhill) in the 1850 relotting, but in 1854 was removed to Grenitote, North Uist as a shepherd, before returning as a cottar/fisherman at Quay.

He and his wife Flora had seven children.

Together with his son Duncan he was tragically drowned along with James MacCuish and Iain MacCusbic in 1865 when his boat capsized in a storm.
