67502: John MacCusbic

John MacCusbic, born about 1816, was the son of Donald MacCusbic and Christina MacAskill of old Borve. He married Ann MacLeod of Siabaidh. Together they were to have at least five children. He became a farmer in Borve, with a croft of 6 acres.

However, in 1854 the tenants in Borve were cleared from their land in order to make way for Borve Farm. John and his family were removed to 2 Urgha, living there as cottars. John earned a living as a fisherman. In 1865 he was drowned with James MacCuish, Alexander MacLeod and Duncan MacLeod when their boat capsized in a storm.
