67547: Donald MacLeod

Donald MacLeod was born about 1855, presumably in Grenitote, North Uist, where his parents Alexander MacLeod and Flora MacLeod had recently moved, having previously lived in Ruisgarry. The family returned to become cottars at ‘house 7’ Quay.

Dòmhnall Òg became a fisherman and married Catherine MacAskill of 7 Ruisgarry in 1883. They lived at ‘house 6’ Quay and had a family of seven children. Though his main occupation was fishing, at times Donald worked as a general labourer or as a seaman.

On his death, the house they lived in was passed to son-in-law Neil MacAskill.
