68906: Donald MacAskill
Donald MacAskill, the son of Neil and Marion MacAskill, was born in old Borve in 1828. By 1841, the family were crofting in old Ruisgarry, where Neil obtained croft 4 Ruisgarry – Tarraloch, in 1850. On Neil’s death in 1873, croft 4 was divided into two – part 4a Ruisgarry was passed to Donald, and 4b to his brother Peter.
Donald, a crofter and fisherman, married Hannah Ferguson in 1859, and they had seven children together. Donald also became guardian to his grand-daughter Marion MacAskill, whose mother had died in childbirth.
The croft was passed to eldest son James.
