Annabella MacAskill was born in 1900, the child of Kenneth MacAskill and his wife Lexy MacKillop, and was brought up on 4 Ruisgarry (Tarraloch). She started attending Berneray School in 1906.
Later Annabella emigrated to Vancouver via Toronto. It was in Vancouver that she met her future husband, Martin MacKinnon from Mull.
