Angus was a son of Donald Maciver and Christina Maclean, 3 Crowlista. He married Mary Morrison and had a large family. Two of the children were born before the family emigrated to Cape Breton in 1827.

An Angus Maciver and Mary Morrison registered a daughter Chirsty on 20th June 1826 in Crowlista. It is uncertain whether this is the same couple.
