72129: Roderick MacGillivray

Roderick MacGillivray (born about 1790) from Northton, Harris married Mary MacAskill from Eigg. They had a daughter Jessie.

He is shown in the rental list for Ruisgarry in 1830, paying rental of £18.10.0, far higher than any of the other tenants. From this we can assume that he was tenant of a large area. It seems likely that this was around Baile, the site of the farm belonging to earlier tacksmen of Berneray, and also the location of the croft (8 Ruisgarry) that his widow Mary was allocated in the relotting of 1850. He was shown as a farmer in the 1841 census, but his wife was widowed by 1851.
