72222: John MacKenzie

John MacKenzie (1849-1919) from Ullapool married Barbara MacKenzie, with whom he had two daughters.

John became a mail driver and postman, and often visited his daughters at Baile. He was a member of Berneray Church. On such a visit in 1919, when leaving for his home in Obbe and walking to the ferry with a heavy suitcase, he took a rest and sat on a large boulder by the roadside at Rhuvanish and there died, hence becoming known as Bodach Rubha Mhanais.
