Adam was born in 1862, the son of schoolteacher and registrar Donald MacKay and Marion Paterson of Rubha Mor, moving with his parents to Baile in 1875, living at ‘house 1’.
He became a yachtsman and fisherman, owner of the Daisy. In 1897 he married Catherine MacKay from 13 Obbe, with whom he was to have four children. The young family lived close to his parents at ‘house 3’ Baile. However, in 1906 he was tragically drowned along with three others when his boat was overwhelmed during a gale.
