72957: Marion MacAskill

Marion MacAskill, born in 1870, was the daughter of James MacAskill and Marjory Ferguson of Ferry, moving with them to 10 Ruisgarry (Gunhill) in 1873. She became a domestic servant, marrying John MacLeod of 1/2 Ruisgarry (Sandhill) in 1889, with whom she was to have ten children. She was also a weaveress.

John and Marion lived as cottars on the croft at Sandhill until about 1900, when they moved to her father’s croft at Gunhill, which was later passed to John. Following her sister Sibla’s death in 1919, Marion cared for her children, John, Alexander and Marjory MacKillop.
