Effie was born in 1836, the daughter of Donald Campbell and Christina Morrison of Pabbay. By 1861 she was living with her widowed mother on 1/2 Ruisgarry (Sandhill). Effie became a domestic servant and her son Donald was born in 1862.
In 1869 she married fisherman Malcolm Shaw of 1 Urgha, which is where they made their home.
