73565: Donald Campbell

Donald Campbell, born in 1868, was the eldest child of Finlay Campbell and Margaret Munro, cottars on 1/2 Ruisgarry (Sandhill). Donald worked as a farm servant for Kenneth MacLeod, and later as a fisherman. Donald’s boat was the Mary Ann, and it was for him that Bodha Dhòmhnaill Fhionnlaigh was named.

In 1895 he married Christina MacLeod of 30 Backhill, which is where they made their home. He and his wife had no children of their own, but he was guardian of her great-niece Christine (Chrissie) during her time at Berneray School. The house later passed to Chrissie following Donald’s death in 1952.
