Marion, also known as Morag, was the daughter of Allan Paterson and Marion MacKay, cottars on 8 Ruisgarry (Baile). Born in 1896, she attended Berneray School between 1901 and 1911.

In 1900 the family moved to 14 Borve, but her mother was to die in childbirth later that year. When her father Allan died less than two years later, Morag stayed for a while with her aunt Rebecca Paterson at Ludag. 

Morag died in Inverness in 1966 and was interred in the graveyard at Siabaidh on Berneray. She never married.
