Rachel was the daughter of Peggy Munro of 10 Borve. She moved to 11 Borve on her mother's marriage to John MacKillop. Rachel, by then known as Rachel MacKillop, was a pupil at Berneray School between 1917 and 1925, later settling in Glasgow.
