74824: Ann MacAskill

Ann was born in 1847, the daughter of blacksmith Neil MacAskill and his wife Ann MacKillop of Borve. Her father died when Ann was about 6 years of age and the family moved to ‘house 1’ Rubha Mor where they lived as cottars.

Ann became a domestic servant and in 1876 married widower John MacLean of 18 Ruisgarry (Brusda). Together they were to have five children. Her husband died in 1890 and Ann continued to work the croft with her son Seonaidh, working as a wool spinner by 1911. She passed away of bronchitis in 1922.
