Marion was born in about 1831, the eldest child of Murdo Ross and Ann Shaw of old Ruisgarry and later 14 Ruisgarry (Trealigarry). In 1854 the family moved again, to 3 Sgeir an Aoil, Malaclete in North Uist. Marion remained unmarried.
