75554: Mary Ann MacAskill

Mary Ann was born in 1907, the eldest child of John MacAskill and Marion MacAskill of 7/2 Ruisgarry (Lag a’ Chealla). Following her father’s death from appendicitis when Mary Ann was less than 2 years old, she and her mother stayed at 7/2 Ruisgarry for a number of years, before moving to Quay.

Mary Ann was a pupil at Berneray School between 1913 and 1921. She became a domestic servant and married Malcolm MacLeod. They made their home at 15 Ruisgarry (Trealigarry) with their son. Her husband became a lay preacher and the family later moved to Coll, then Glenelg.
