Roderick was born in 1881, the second son of that name born to Neil MacLeod and Marion Ferguson of 21/22 Ruisgarry (Ben Leva). He was a pupil at Berneray School. Roderick married Mary Stewart from Daliburgh. They emigrated to Vancouver.
