Mary was a daughter of John Mackenzie and Christina Kennedy, born at 11 Cromore. At that time the family were living at 9 Oliver's Brae.

Her mother died in 1918 and in 1921 her father married Isabella Macmillan, 34 Gravir. Some of the family moved to 34 Gravir.

Mary emigrated to Canada.
