John (born 1857) was the son of Allan Murray and Annabella Mackenzie; the address at the time of his birth is not know.

In 1863 his parents obtained 49 North Tolsta.

John married twice: firstly to Jessie Campbell with whom he had three children and secondly to Margaret Campbell with whom he also had three children. The family lived as cottars at 2 North Tolsta.
