91082: John Macleod

John (1844-1911) was the son of Norman Macleod and Catherine Macdonald of 1 Old North Tolsta. The family moved to 23 Old North Tolsta in 1845. In 1853 they moved to 6 North Tolsta. He married Ann Maciver from 9 Lower Barvas in 1866. 

The couple emigrated to Bruce County, Ontario, Canada with John’s brother William in the early 1870s. John worked as fisherman for some time and was a also a missionary for 40 years in Canada.

After the death of his wife he wrote ‘Mo Bhean’ and returned to 6 North Tolsta to live with his younger sister Mary, but died the same year. He also wrote ‘An t-Eilean a Tuath’ (among others).
