Alexander (1832-1911) was the son of Murdo Murray and Gormelia Campbell of 2 Old North Tolsta.

In 1853, after the previous occupant lost the croft, the family moved to 7 North Tolsta.

Alexander married twice, his first wife was Catherine Murray, of 13 Garrabost, and the couple settled at 67 North Tolsta. They had at least one child at 67 North Tolsta.

In 1860 the family moved to Garrabost, but it is not clear if it was to 13 Garrabost. 67 North Tolsta passed to Alexander Macdonald. The couple had a child, Mary, the year of the move and a further four children once settled in Garrabost. In total they had six children: four girls and two boys.

Alexander was widowed in 1872.

Alexander's second marriage was to Ann Murray, of 21 Branahuie, and the couple settled there; they had two children: a son and a daughter.
