Murdo (1838-1908) was the son of Alexander Maciver and Isabella Maciver, of 23 Old South Tolsta.

Murdo's father died in 1845.

In 1851, during the croft relottings, his mother obtained 14/15 North Tolsta.

In 1854 Murdo's mother split the croft and retained 14 North Tolsta.

Murdo married Christina Gunn, of 43 North Tolsta, and settled there with her; eventually inheriting that croft from her parents: John Gunn and Anne Martin. The couple had six children: four boys and two girls.

In due course 43 North Tolsta passed to their youngest son: Evander.
