Murdo (1843-1927) was the son of Donald Macdonald and Christina Maciver. It is not certain if Murdo was born at 4 Old South Tolsta or 4a Old South Tolsta, as the croft was split the same year as his birth.

In 1851, during the croft relottings, the family obtained 38 North Tolsta. 

Murdo married Ann Maciver, of 23 North Tolsta, and settled there with her. 23 North Tolsta passed to Murdo, from Ann's parents.

Murdo and Ann had their first child in 1867 and their last child in 1880. In total they had seven children: four boys and three girls.

Murdo was widowed in 1912.

In due course 23 North Tolsta passed to their son Roderick.
