Margaret (1862-1945) was a daughter of Alexander Smith and Mary Maciver; the family were cottars at 24 North Tolsta.

In 1902 Margaret had a son, Alexander John Smith.

Margaret married Robert Boyter. Robert was from Arbroath, where the couple settled.

After she was widowed Margaret returned to live in Tolsta and settled with her niece, Catherine Maclennan, at 60 North Tolsta. This occurred after the death of Margaret's sister Mary Smith, Catherine's mother, in 1941.

Margaret is buried in Tolsta Cemetery next to her son.
