92743: Catherine Mackenzie

Catherine (1842-1905) was the daughter of Donald Mackenzie and Margaret Macdonald, of 12 Old North Tolsta.

In 1851, during the croft relottings, the family obtained 48 North Tolsta.

Catherine married Alexander Macdonald, of 38 North Tolsta, and the couple settled at 67 North Tolsta. They had four children there; in 1867 their eldest child, Donald, died in infancy.

In 1875 Alexander inherited 38 North Tolsta and the family gave up 67 North Tolsta and settled at 38 North Tolsta. The couple had their last four children there; in total they had eight children: two boys and six girls.

Three of the couple’s children died in childhood or infancy between 1877 and 1886.

In due course their daughter, Annie, became a cottar at 38 North Tolsta.

38 North Tolsta passed to their son-in-law Donald Macdonald.
