Murdo (1899-1979) was the son of Donald Smith and Isabella Macleod. It is not certain where the family were living at the time of his birth: as initially the family were cottars at 11 North Tolsta, but later moved and became cottars at 56 North Tolsta.
During World War One Murdo served with the Seaforth Highlanders.
Murdo married Joan Maciver, of the cottar's house at 38 North Tolsta, and they settled there. They were married at the home of his wife's aunt, 6 Kennoway Drive, Partick, Glasgow. They had one daughter.
When their daughter married, a self contained extension was built to their house for her; it was called Seaway.
