Angus Murray

Angus Murray

Angus (1798-1863) was the son of Murdo Murray, of Swainbost.

It is not certain when Angus first settled in Tolsta, by 1820 there is an Angus Murray on the sub-tenants list of Old South Tolsta Tack, but this is inconclusive as in 1830 two Angus Murrays obtained crofts in Old South Tolsta: it is unclear which one was in Tolsta earlier as the sub-tenant information is very limited.

In 1830, during the croft lottings, Angus obtained 18 Old North Tolsta.

Angus married Annie Macdonald, of Swainbost, and they had their first child in 1831. The couple had all of their children while at 18 Old North Tolsta; they had six children: four boys and two girls.

In 1853 the family obtained 40 North Tolsta, after the previous occupant had lost the croft.

In due course 40 North Tolsta passed to their son John.

Angus was widowed in 1882 and died the following year.
