Hector Mackay
Hector Mackay
Hector (1894-1946) was the son of Murdo Mackay and Catherine Graham. It is not certain where the family were living at the time of his birth.
In 1917 the family obtained 42 North Tolsta, after the previous occupant Mary Mackay died, it is possibly the family were living there as cottars, and helping Mary maintain the croft, prior to 1917 however.
Hector was part of the naval raid on the Zeebrugge submarine base in 1918.
Hector married Lily Mackay, of 66 North Tolsta, and the couple settled at 2 School Road, North Tolsta and adopted a daughter.
Hector owned and operated the first public bus service in Tolsta.
Their daughter emigrated to New Zealand, so in due course 2 School Road passed to his wife's brother-in-law: John Maciver.
