92970: Murdo Mackay

Murdo (1912-1954) was the son of Murdo Mackay and Catherine Graham; it is not certain where the family were living at the time of his birth.

In 1917, the former occupant of 42 North Tolsta died and the family obtained the croft, however they may have been living there as cottars prior to this.

Murdo served with the Royal Navy during World War Two; he wa a Prisoner of War in North Africa and was repatriated from Italy, only to be called up again 6 weeks later. He was present at the Normandy Landings in 1944.

In 1954 Murdo died as a result of his war service. He never married.
