92973: John Martin

John (1767-1855) was the son of Angus Martin; it is not known where he was born.

John married Margaret Macdonald and the couple had six children, three sons and three daughters, between 1785 and 1800. It is not known where the family were living at this time. Between 1802 and 1810 four of their children died in late childhood.

John’s name appears on the Old South Tolsta Tack subtenants list of 1820.

In 1830, during the croft lottings, John obtained 3 Old South Tolsta.

In 1851, during the croft relottings, John obtained 43 North Tolsta.

John was widowed in 1853 and, that same year, 43 North Tolsta passed to the couple’s son-in-law, John Gunn.
