92978: John Gunn

John (1800-1874) was the son of Donald Gunn of Eoropie.

In 1820 John’s name appears on the subtenants list of Old South Tolsta Tack.

John married Anne Martin, of Old South Tolsta Tack, and the couple settled in Old South Tolsta Tack and had their first child in 1825.

John joined the Seaforth Militia. He is described as a fisherman and sickly.

In 1830, during the croft lottings, the family obtained 10 Old North Tolsta. The couple had their second child that same year. They went on to have a further five children there: in total they had seven children: four boys and three girls.

In 1853, when Old North Tolsta was cleared to make way for Tolsta Farm, the family obtained 43 North Tolsta, from Anne’s parents. Anne’s mother died that same year but her father continued to live with them for several more years.

In due course 43 North Tolsta passed to their son-in-law Murdo Maciver.
