93155: Colin Campbell

Colin (born 1916) was the son of Colin Campbell and Jessie Smith of 47 North Tolsta.

Colin’s father was washed overboard and drowned while serving with the Royal Navy in 1916.

In 1918 his elder brother, John, was fatally injured while serving with the Merchant Navy.

On the 16th of March 1921, during The Great Gale, the roof was blown off the family home. His brother Angus was lying in bed seriously ill at the time and his bedding was also blown away. He was moved first to the barn and then the nearest house; he died later that year.

Colin married Christina Maclean, of Sighthill Cottage, North Tolsta, and the couple settled at 47 North Tolsta.

In due course the crofthouse, at 47 North Tolsta, was feued off from the croft and passed to their eldest daughter; the croft at 47 North Tolsta passed to their youngest daughter.
