93259: Margaret Mackay

Margaret (1852-1924) was the daughter of Roderick Mackay and Christina Macdonald. The place of her birth is not certain, it seems likely her parents were either living with her parental grandparents at 16 North Tolsta or with her maternal grandparents at Melbost, Borve.

In 1857 the family obtained 50 North Tolsta.

In 1882 Margaret and Angus Murray, of 49 North Tolsta, had a son together: Murdo Murray. Angus registered the child with his surname prior to joining the Army and going to Afghanistan and India. The couple never married; Angus went on to marry twice but Margaret remained single.

50 North Tolsta passed to Margaret, and in due course to her son Murdo.
